Abstract

Needle felts are produced by impregnating the felt with a mixt. of chemicals for forming polyurethane, and these chemicals are then hardened off. The mixt. of chemicals is sprayed by nozzles reciprocating across the width of the back side of the cloth, whilst it is being moved forward, so that the polyurethane foam forms an underlay for the floor covering. The number of steps necessary to produce a floor covering from a needle felt can be reduced. In partic., the process of impregnating the goods and consolidating them by heat treatment, followed by a separate operation of coating the back of the goods to improve their characteristics, can be carried out in one operation.
