Abstract
Insulating material comprises pieces of formaldehyde cured foam enclosed in a flexible bag, and is suitable for laying in lofts of buildings or stuffing into cavities between walls. Material is less irritant than fibrous insulation less combustible than e.g. polystyrene foam, less readily displaced than loose vermiculite. The pieces are pref. ground from blocks or chunks of foamed urea formaldehyde reins having a density of 6-12 kg/m3, and passed through a sieve having round holes of >25 mm dia. The bag may be of material which is intrinsically permeable to air and moisture, or impermeable but perforated, or impermeable and inflated with sufficient pressure to prevent localised loads from crushing the pieces of foam.
