Abstract

The bran is micronised and stirred in water containing animal, vegetable, fungal or bacterial proteases for 1-3 hours at 25-35 degrees C, pH 5-7. A soln. of the trace elements is added and the prod. is dried instantenously by spraying or atomisation in a current of warm air. The powdered prod. is storage stable for a practically limitless period. Typical elements are 12-80 mg Fe3+, 2-12 mg Zn2+ 2-10mg Mn2+, 0.2-0.5 mg CO2+, 0.05-0.3 mg Li+, 1-6 mg Rb+ and 1-15 mg Al3+ per 100g micronised bran. In an example wheat bran was ground to pass a 140 mesh sieve and mixed with 5 times its weight of water 30g protease per 100 litres water was added together with 10g FeCl3, 1.2g ZnCl2, 1.8g MnCl2, 0.9g CoCl2, 0.06g LiCl, 0.28g RbCl and 1 g AlCl3. After 2 hrs. at pH 6-7 the mixt. was atomised at 165-185 degrees C to give a powdered prod.
