Abstract

A foam material lined with a textile lining is joined by butt jointing the edges of two pieces of the material together using an adhesive. The butt joint is consolidated by stitching which compresses the material on the face which is lined to form a recess. The joint is covered by a tape on its unlined face, and the recess is filled by a filler strip which is of the same thickness as the depth of the recess. The strip is covered with a tape of the same material as the lining. The method is used for manufacturing diving suits. The joints formed are watertight and the thermal insulation in the region of the joint is not reduced.
