Abstract

The ends of two tubes which fit into each other leaving a space between them, are coated with a brazing solder. The tubes are fitted together and the surfaces to be joined are pressed together with a heated former. The brazing solder melts and a relative movement is produced between the surfaces and the brazing solder. The oxide film on the brazing solder is dispersed in a disordered fashion and the film of brazing solder of min thickness on each surface is combined to form a joint between the tubes. The fluxless joining of pre-tinned tubes without removing the oxide film on the surface of the filler metal, is achieved. The tubes are esp. for use in heat exchangers in refrigeration systems. Her Al is used but other metals used in refrigeration systems e.g. Cu, steel or a combination of these can be successfully joined. High-speed automatic joining of tubes can be achieved.
