Abstract

The claps for jewellery chains constitutes an adapted chain link. The link has a lateral gap allowing the opposite end link to be inserted or withdrawn. The gap may be opened or closed by a sliding and pivoting bolt mechanism. Chain length can be adjusted by removing standard links. The clasp mechanism comprises of a rectangular block (2) which is built onto the end link (1). It has a blind channel (8, 13) of key-hole cross section. The bolt is formed by one leg (12) of an 'H' shaped hasp of which the other cylindrical leg (9) fits in the circular section (8) of the keyhole slot. a slot (14) in one of walls of the keyhole channel allows the bar (11) of the 'H deg. to pass and the bolt (12) to move on a circular path. The 'H' block is slid against a spring (10) to align the 'H' bar (11) with its escape slot (14).
