Abstract
In the method, the measured value is transmitted from a transmitter (3) via a transmission line (2) to a receiving circuit (1). Through the transmission of a feed pulse from the receiving circuit to the transmitter, the measurement is initiated in the latter, the transmitter (3) acknowledging the measured value by short-circuiting the transmission line to the receiving circuit (1). The time period from the activation of the feed pulse until the short-circuiting of the line (2) by the transmitter is defined by the measured value of the physical quantity. When the short-circuit occurs on the line, the receiving circuit once more de-activates the feed power fed to the line, whereby the transmitter is returned to the initial condition. The method makes do with a two-wire transmission line and requires little power due to the respective short-circuiting of the line. The method is suitable e.g. for remote temperature measurement in water heating systems.
