Abstract

The vehicle disc brake has a stirrup which straddles a disc mounted on a shaft. The stirrup is movable relative to a fixed support, the stirrup and support having a cooperating cylindrical portion and bore to control the movement. The stirrup exercises a braking force on one side of the disc and carries a movable element which exerts an opposing force on the other side of the disc. The stirrup and movable element act on two slidably guided pads. One of the cooperating surfaces of the stirrup and support is convex allowing the stirrup to tilt. The movable element may be a piston which is fluid operated and slides in a bore in the stirrup.
