Abstract

Method avoids the need for washing, by drying the material before it is beaten or vacuum cleaned. The treatment is esp. for linen or hemp mailbags, as the fibres are considerably swollen when damp, so that the pores in the weave are then smaller and the entrapped dust more tightly held. Drying also breaks up the lumps into which coagulates when it gets damp. Drying for 10 minutes at 110 degrees C gives good results.
