Abstract

The universl handle (1) receives assorted alternative heads (2) such as axe or hammer heads. The handle (1) is tubular and accepts a spigot which projects perpendicularly from the head. The head is secured in place by means of a pivoting triangulated tension clamp (3, 4). The tension clamp mechanism may include a pivoting stirrup (3) and a pivoting notched lever (4). The stirrup (3) is mounted on the head (2) and the lever (4) on the handle (1). The geometry of the mechanism is such that with the head loosely in place and the stirrup bar (3') engaging the lever notch (4'), the lever (4) subtends an angle of 45 deg. with the handle. By rotating the lever (4) onto the handle, the stirrup (3) is tensioned and the head (2) secured.
