Abstract
The lift incorporates a cage, a supporting rope, an electric motor and a mechanical brake. The motor windings (4) can be connected in two or more ways so as to give different torques and braking effects, and the brake can give two or more differenct retardation effects. A regulator unit is connected to the cage, selecting the best type of motor connection and brake operation to suit the cage load and its direction of travel. The lift can be without a counterweight, the motor winding the rope onto a drum when lifting. The regulator unit gives a greater motor starting torque on ascending than on descending, braking effect being less when ascending.
