Abstract

The additional guide faces (45) are mounted on the rigid support (18) and are coplanar with the original guide faces (23, 24). The function of the additional guide faces is to prevent twisting of the sliding stirrup (30) which reacts the compressive braking load. This twisting is due to the offset frictional load on the inner braking pad, which has been found to wear unevenly on the leading edge in use. For the additional guide faces to function, they must lie inside the inner braking pad in a radial sense and at approx. mid stirrup height and must also be offset in an axial sense to lie beyond the drum edge.
