Abstract

The surface of the metal workpieces to be case-hardened, is first cleaned and then covered with a medium contg. a B cpd. after which the workpiece is heated to 700-1100 degrees C. The application of the B cpd. contg. medium and heating may be repeated several times. The medium pref. also contains a bonding agent which dissociates at 100-500 degrees C. Prolonged heat treatment is not required and a greater depth of surface hardness is obtd. Post maching is also unnecessary.
