Abstract
Moisture and lubricating grease are removed from rolling mill sludge found in the drain water pit of steel rolling plant, so that the sludge can be used in mfg. sinter. The initial sludge contains >=20% water which is first removed followed by removal of the grease. The moisture content is reduced to 1-10% and the sludge is then fed in uniform amts. to part of a sintering machine, such as the cooler inlet or outlet, the conveyor near the hot sieve for returning the fines, or the return chute, so that the remaining moisture and the grease are removed by the heat available from the hot sinter. The initial sludge drying is pref. achieved using heat from the sinter cooler, or dry mill scale may be added to the wet sludge. Used for recovery of iron from rolling mill sludge.
