Abstract

Ampoules are loaded into a steeply inclined corridor in a single layer, arranged in downward columns and transverse rows, each row containing 'N' ampoules. The corridor is pivoted near the top so that the lower end can be transversely oscillated slightly to feed ampoules down into a cascade of 'N' column slots, the underside of the cascade opening into a transverse outlet channel which can hold 'N' ampoules in a single file row. The row, or rows, immediately above the bottom row in the cascade are gripped while a slide sepg. the bottom row from the outlet channel is withdrawn to drop the bottom row into the channel. The slide is then returned to eject the row of 'N' ampoules from the channel into a delivery passage, and to await release of the next row from the cascade. The gripping and release operations, and the slide withdrawal and ejection operations are pref. programmed for automatic sequencing.
