Abstract

Filter-press comprises a group of identical filters. Each has an external envelope which contains a perforated metal cage with holes for the passage of the expressed liq. The grapes to be pressed are pumped into the chamber delimited by the cage and by a pressuriser of rubberised cloth. The latter is inflated by compressed air; the grapes are pressed against the cage and the liq. flows through the holes to a trough from which it is evacuated to storage tanks. The solids, skins, pips and stalks, remain against the inside of the cage from which they are detached by the descent of a piston actuated by the introduction of compressed air. The piston is returned to its original position by the introduction of compressed air and a new cycle can be commenced. The filter is of partic. simple construction, it can produce a practically continuous flow of expressed liq.
