Abstract

The cover for a ship's hold has a number of plate members with a trapezium cross-section (7) which are riveted to adjacent plates on either side at the uppermost flat sections. The riveted joints may also include box-section cross members. In the plane transverse to the centre-line of the ship, the plates may be slightly bowed to conform with the overall profile. At the edges of the covering the plates fit onto inverted U-section half channel joists (5). Fitting is by clips (14) clamped in positioned by wing-nuts (17) screwed up from below and retained by cross-wires (20).
