Abstract

The electric door lock contains a softly sprung bolt which engages in the door frame rebate. A constant electric current through contacts to an armature pulls in a soft iron core which has an angled extension with a simple catch. When the current flows, the catch holds a plunger out against a strong spring. The plunger has a lip which engages in a corresponding lip on the bolt, and allows the bolt to travel, under the force of the weak spring, into the locking position. Discontinuation of the current releases the catch and plunger which retracts the bolt.
