Abstract

Lubricating oil for i.c. engines, contg. a combination of two additives, (A) an oil-soluble basic N cpd. with total base value >=300 mg. KOH/g., which is sufficiently soluble in or hydrolysed by water to give pH 9.5 or above, and (B) a 10-22C alkyl or alkenyl succinic acid. Wt. ratio of A:B is 1:2 to 2:1. Used esp. for automobile engine oils. The additives are effective corrosion inhibitors, and used in place of super basic metal cpds., provide ash-free lubricating oils and induce deposits of lead cpds. on the valves.
