Abstract

The hopper is fitted with an overhead fan for filling the hopper via a suction tube. The hopper is also provided with double walls which are partially perforated so that the fan can also draw heated air from the injection chamber to preheat the material in the hopper. Method is simpler and more efficient than use of independent external heat exchangers to produce hot air for warming the material in the hopper, or for using material pre-warmed prior to being fed to the hopper.
