Abstract

Protein materials are prepd. from methane by cultivation of an aq. nutrient media in the presence of methane, an oxygen contg. gas, a microorganism (I) using methane and at least one microorganism (II) which can use the foam producing substances formed by the first microorganism. Also the following microorganism strains are novel: Methylococcus capsulatus NCIB 10856, a bacteria strain NCIB 11134, Moraxella NCIB 11135, a strain of Alcaligenes, Agrobacterium or Pseudomonas NCIB 11136, 11137 and 11141; a strain of Alcaligenes or Pseudomonas NCIB 11140. The protein is used and Acinetobacter NCIB 11140. The protein is used as a food source. In a previous process similar to the above, the foam produced has had a harmful effect and anti-foaming agents bath reduce the yield and contaminate the product. The presence of the microorganism which can use the foam producing substances overcomes this difficulty reducing or eliminating the foam.
