Abstract

The clamp is fitted to the arm (6) of a front-loading tractor and comprises a frame (19) on each side of a central pivot (13). Each frame section has arms (11) at 90 deg., with teeth for gripping hay bales. A rod (14) is also fitted on the pivot pin (13) and can slide relative to the frame. As the front loader arm descends over the bale, the rod is pushed upwards. A parallelogram linkage (9) causes the arms to close inwards to hold the bale automatically. A spring-loaded pawl (16) locks the rod (14) and clamp. To release the bale, a cable (19) attached to a lever integral with the pawl is pulled and the bale is freed.
