Abstract
An air leak detector for checking the air tightness of a closed vessel (4) in particular a cockpit of an automobile, (5) comprises an ultrasonic signal generator and a receiver of ultrasonic signals operating at the same frequency as the generator. One is placed inside the vessel and the other outside. The receiver has a signalling device (7) which is triggered when the intensity of ultrasonic signals received passes a predetermined level. The transmitter and receiver have piezoelectric ceramic transducers operating at frequencies between 12 kHz and 10 MHz. A sensitivity control in the form of a potentiometer is between the receiver transducer and its first stage amplifier, and it is connected by a flexible cable.
