Abstract

In the process for the pyrolysis of polymeric and inorganic waste products, these are predried and, if necessary, precomminuted. The waste products thus pretreated are then heated at subatmospheric pressure to their decomposition temperature by means of an external heat supply and forcibly transported onwards during the heating and decomposition, while the gases released are extracted. At this stage, the decomposition temperature is kept so high between 400 DEG C and 800 DEG C and the subatmospheric pressure is kept so low that the released oils and waxes are extracted. The equipment for carrying out the process contains a reactor pipe (12, 112) in which a driven advancing device (14, 114) is provided and around which a heating device (30, 32, 34, 36) is arranged coaxially. A charging hopper (22) fitted with air exclusion locks (24, 26) is connected air-tight to the charging end, and a discharge chamber (46) sealed air-tight is tightly connected to the reactor pipe at the discharge end, while the discharge chamber itself is connected to the suction side of a fan (64). The process allows continuous operation of this equipment without supplying external energy, while clean, high-value gases are obtained which have a high energy content. Liquid products or sludges can also be processed. The equipment itself is compact and easily transportable.
