Abstract
A process for producing cellular silicate particles comprises preparing droplets of an aq. soln. of an alkali silicate, consolidating these droplets by precipitation in a bath transforming them into a gel contg. a pore forming agent and expanding the particles of solid gel formed. The expanded silicate has a low density and good thermal insulating properties. It can therefore be used as z thermally insulating material. The material has a fine pore structure and good strength.
