Abstract

The hot water pump for a central heating system can be controlled to vary its pressure and discharge, without overheating. The pump casing has a bottom inlet (11) and a top outlet (12), the impeller (14) being mounted between them, driven by a motor (15) with a horizontal axis. The flow controller (18) is positioned adjacent to the impeller. This is rotated by a control lever (22) on the outside with its axis in line with the motor axis. The inlet (11) is offset so that the water flow travels sideways through the flow controller, entering through a cavity (24) at the bottom, and leaving the controller through a cavity (25) at the top. Thus the flow through them is controlled simultaneously as the lever (22) is rotated.
