Abstract

Polyimide oligomers with terminal -C triple bond CH gps. have general formula: where X and R are each O, S, Co, Co3, (CF2)n, CH2, -CF2-O-CF2- and CF3-C-CF3. For prodn. of mouldings of high dimensional and thermal stability. The prods. most nearly approach in properties those of US 3845018 which are already superior to materials at present available commercially. Prods. of the invention represent an improvement on those of US 3845018 in that oligomers have lower m.pt. are soluble not only in polar solvents but also in CHCl3 or acetone, are easier to prepare and lower in cost, have lower viscosities on melting and because of their low mol. wt. have more sites for crosslinking per unit of wt. thus giving final prods. of higher crosslink density.
