Abstract

1441066 Polymers of acetylene-unsaturated polyimide oligomers HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO 3 April 1974 [3 April 1973] 14857/74 Headings C3R and C3P [Also in Division C2] Polymers are obtained by polymerizing new acetylene substituted polyimide oligomers of Formula I where R is diarylene ether or poly-(arylene ether) optionally with pendant aryl groups, diarylene ketone, diarylene sulphone, diarylene thioether or poly-(arylene thioether); R<SP>1</SP> is arylene, diarylene thioether, diarylene methane or diarylene ether; R<SP>11</SP> groups are II or III where X is CO, CH 2 , O, S or a single bond; R groups may be the same or different, and so may the R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> groups; R and R<SP>11</SP> may be substituted by ethynyl groups; n is 1-10. In examples, an oligomer in which R is R<SP>1</SP> is -PhOPh-, R<SP>11</SP> is III (X=CO) and n<SP>1</SP>=1 is polymerized and formed into a laminate; a similar oligomer in which R<SP>1</SP> is -Phis polymerized, and also copolymerized with terephthalonitrile N,N<SP>1</SP>-dioxide. The polymers are useful for coatings and adhesives as well as for laminates.
