Abstract

The valve has a ball (7) movable in a body (2) connected between two coupling flanges (9, 10), there being seals (15, 16) between the body and the flanges. The ball is rotated by an operating stem (3) which is turned by an external handle (4). Sealing between the stem and the body is by a compressed packing (17). The seats for the ball are formed by hollow, deformable metal rings (13, 14) mounted in annular grooves in the flanges (9, 10). Each ring (13, 14) typically comprises a coil spring within a split tubular ring formed by two rolled metal strips.
