Abstract

The undersurface of the ski has two longitudinal slots in which plastic strips (2) are fitted, which each have a number of shallow rectangular depressions (9). A tooth (3) is formed on the undersurface of the strip (2) opposite each depression (9). These teeth have gently sloping forward surfaces (4) and steeply sloping rear surfaces (7) which meet at a sharp edge (6). The rear surface (7) forms a re-entrant angle (8) with the thin wall of the lower surface of the depression (9). When the skier is climbing, the teeth (3) dig into the snow but when sliding the teeth are deflected upwards to provide a smooth undersurface.
