Abstract

The electrical connector is particularly intended for use with printed circuit boards, and provides an accurate and reliable solderless connection and a self cleaning contact array. Individual contact bearing modules are based on a single sprung metal strip (12) bent into a semicircle (13) at its centre. The two tongues at either side are bent over at their tips (1, 11) to provide the contacting surfaces. The semi-circular form of the centre section allows the strip to be trapped within a cylindrical insulating holder. The cylinder has cam like external surfaces against which the strips are pressed, and further shaping allows the cylinders to be interlocked end to end.
