Abstract

Sodium hydrosulphite is prepd. by reacting (1) zinc hydrosulphite in an aqs. medium with (2) a sodium salt of phosphoric acid to give a soln. of sodium hydrosulphite, and a precipitate of zinc phosphate. The ppte. of zinc phosphate can be easily removed by filtration. The recovered zinc phosphate is a useful prod., e.g. as an anticorrosive agent in paints. An alkaline sodium cpd. (3) is added subsequently to the aqs. soln. to decrease the solubility of the zinc phosphate in the soln., the amount of (3) being sufficient to provide a pH of 7-9. The precipitated zinc phosphate is filtered, washed and dried.
