Abstract
The machine is for handling items which cannot by touched by hand, e.g. castings still hot, and consists of a slewing boom with several sections pivoting on each other and a pivoting grab on the free end. It is controlled by a model of the actual equipment and every movement of the control unit is transmitted by an angular movement detector so as to produce a corresponding movement of the machine. The detectors are rotary electric signalling devices, and the drives to the various movemens are hydraulic double-acting rams or reversible electric units. The boom can be in three sections pivoting together. The signals in the control circuit is recorded so that a cycle performed the first time may be exactly repeated.
