Abstract

With the fuel economising system, the engine is normally started with the ignition key (2). The switch (4) is actuated by the gear lever and is open when the gear lever is in neutral position. The switch (6) is open when the accelerator pedal (7) is in its rest position. The driver can over-ride the system with the switch (5). The switch (10) is opened by oil pressure when the engine is running and closes when the engine stops. Depressing the accelerator pedal (7) closes the switch (9) and current is supplied to the starter (13) if the engine is not running. The engine is thus stopped when the gearbox is in neutral and restarted when the clutch pedal is actuated.
