Abstract

The viscosity of liquids having a wide range of high viscosities, e.g. bitumen, is measured using a flow method. A dosing pump at constant speed passed the liquid through a coiled capillary, the pressure drop across the capillary being sensed by a differential pressure transmitter and the temp. of the liq. being controlled by this transmitter to maintain a constant press. drop. The temp. at various points on the coil is measured by thermocouples. The method is for measurement of viscosities of heavy fuels, e.g. bitumen and tars, as soon as they are produced under driven(pumped)conditions.
