Abstract

Pipe coupling for joining semi-rigid tubing by supporting the tube internally on a hollow mandrel and using a tapered external nut to clamp the tube end between the internal and an external sleeve. The mandrel and sleeve are toothed or ribbed so as to bite into the tube wall and prevent withdrawal of the tube end by external tension. Esp. suitable for coupling pipes or pipe fittings of polyethylene. The clamping effect obtd. can be so great that the tube will break before disengaging.
