Abstract
The dc motor has salient excitation poles and its excitation field is produced by permanent magnets. The required speed/torque characteristics are obtained by using a field reducing device consisting of bridges (7) of a magnetic material between the excitation poles (3, 5). These bridges are adjustable and alter the reluctance of the magnetic circuit that links adjacent excitation poles. The bridges can move radially w.r.t. the armature (2) between this armature and the outer yoke (4) carrying the excitation poles. The bridges are shaped so that their motion causes a linear alteration in the reluctance of the magnetic circuit.
