Abstract

Suction device with fluid drive comprises (a) an annular nozzle provided with an air throat and a diffuser and formed between two tubular elements of the same given diameter, with their central longitudinal axes aligned and (b) means for introducing compressed air through the throat and diffuser into the second tubular element and for drawing a current of air from the first into the second tubular element. Pref. the diffuser consists of two divergent walls making angles of 30 degrees and 41 degrees with their central longitudinally aligned axes. The device enables an annular Venturi nozzle to be used in a suction device to accelerate the drive air to supersonic speed before mixing with the stream of air to be aspirated, e.g. the air used to raise the drilling debris from a borehole. A higher power can thus be obtd. with drive air at the same inlet pressure.
