Abstract

Elastomeric block copolyesters having a softening point of >=120 degrees C, for prodn. of tubes, belts, sheets and injection moulded articles, are prepd. by reacting, in the molten state, an aromatic polyester (I) having a reduced viscosity of >=0.4 g and derived from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, with a aliphatic polyester (II) having a reduced viscosity of >=0.4, and derived from an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid or hydroxycarboxylic acid, the wt. ratio (I)/(II) being 0.25-9/1. In (I) >70 mole % of the acid component consists of terephthalic acid, and >70 mole % of the diol component consists of tetramethylene glycol or trimethylene glycol. (I) and (II) are reacted until the resulting polyester has an elastic recovery of at least 50%, after drawing by 20% and then relaxing for 5 mins.
