Abstract

Blocks or panels of mixed metal of mineral and organic construction incorporating plastics materials which can generate smoke during combustion have any passages by which the smoke could escape from within the block or panel obstructed by a paid of fibres made of a polycrystalline refractory metal oxide, viz. fibres of alumina, silica-alumina or zircon. The fibres suppress the escape of smoke, and may also suppress combustion of the material, and hence spread of flame. Esp. for mfr. of building blocks or panels, to reduce fire hazards and obscuration risks from structures incorporating polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foams or expanded polystyrene, polyolefins, phenolic or epoxy resin foams.
