Abstract

A wind driven machine rotor is mounted on a shaft with its axis vertical. The rotor consists of two discs (1) spaced apart by rods equally spaced around the disc peripheries. These rods support pivoting blades (4). The angular movement of the blades is limited in one direction by stops fixed near to the edge of the discs and in the other direction by stops arranged around the central shaft. The stops are so arranged that as the rotor rotates the blades (4) present the maximum area to the wind when moving with the wind and are edge on to the wind when moving against it.
