Abstract

A leakproof union for the head of an underwater borehole and a tube suspension fitting, includes a compression nut tightening on the threads of the tube suspension fitting, having an upwards extension with an interlocking arrangement for a positioning tool by which the nut can be rotated, and a downwards extension with a grooved shoulder projecting outwards from a sleeve; a compression ring, having above, a contact surface corresponding in section to the grooved shoulder of the compression nut and an internal groove for an elastic ring so that it can be locked on the compression nut; tapped holes are provided for screws by which the locking ring can be disengaged from the internal groove in the compression ring skirt to separate the two details; a seal-carrying trunnion, has its lower face butted against an annulus of the tube suspension fitting; and elastic seals occupy the space between the seal trunnion and sleeves of the compression ring. The compression ring, has the form of an inverted "U", assembled for ease of machining with sleeves fastened by screws to the body of the ring, to give a cylindrical groove. The trunnion has the form of an inverted "T", the shank of which slides in the annulus over a distance determined by locating pegs and the elastic seals have a rectangular secretion. The absence of any fastening holes from the seals eliminates the main sources of breakdown.
