Abstract

In the continuous application of a spiral reinforcement to the outer surface of a plastic tubular substrate, using monofilaments, strips, wires etc., wound on bobbins as reinforcing members, the reinforcement is applied continuously to a stationary tension-unloading element via a revolving reinforcement take-off member coupled with the bobbin dirve and rotating at a speed, which in conjunction with the speed of advance of the tubular substrate determines the pitch of the winding, the reinforcement then being transferred continuously the tubular substrate which passes through the tension-unloading element and wound there on free from tension and distortion at the pre-selected winding pitch.
