Abstract

A method of preventing the formation of lime deposits from hard water in straight through heaters giving instantaneous hot water; the deposits being caused by the momentary overheating of the residual water when the feed is cut off, uses a reserve vessel to create a continued greatly reduced circulation of water. Connections to the vessel are arranged so that, as it acts, when the through-flow control valve is closed and the gas feed to the main burners is cut off, the flow of water is continued for a definite short period in such a way that the safety valve for preventing dry running, is not opened. Prevents the formation of alkaline stone deposits tending to block the tubes, by preventing overheating of the remaining water in the coil when the flow is stopped.
