Abstract

Nonwoven fabric for the manufacture of garments and drapery consists of molecularly oriented thermoplastic fibres placed in statistical disorder, and has spaced apart perforations passing through its thickness. The fibres situated immediately adjacent to the perforations, and defining the perforations being welded together by superficial fusion, and the fibres in the regions between the perforations being essentially free of mutual welds. The fabric is similar to woven fabrics in extensibility, abrasion resistance, firmness, drape and softness. The fibres pref. consist of polypropylene in the form of continuously deposited filaments.
