Abstract

A gas cooling system particularly for turbo-alternators is centred on two types of conductors. Those conductors (7) above the slots form amongst them transverse passages (10). Gas coming in through the inlet orifice (5) passes along a passage (8) before going through the transverse passages into the outlet passage (9) and out through outlet orifice (6). The orifices (5, 6) are made in the air-gap. The outlet orifice (6) and passage (9) are respectively larger than the inlet orifice (5) and passage (8). Those conductors (11) under the slots form a radial passage (12). Gas coming via an axial slot (14) passes through the radial passages (12) before meeting exit passes (9).
