Abstract

Injection moulding machine which injects into one side of a platen which bears moulds on each of two faces at right angles to the axis of injection. A pair of mobile platens can close on to the moulds on the opposite faces of the injection platen. The injection nozzle fits into a recess which allows the nozzle to retract to depressure melt contd. in the heated runners of the injection platen. The runners end in chambers with coaxial heated mandrels which are pointed and spring loaded to plug the mould inlet gates when the injection pressure is relaxed. At least two mould gates are served on each face of the injection platen. The hot runner system of the central platen avoids the need to recover injection spures and the need for the double-sided machine to open wide for removing runners on each side of the central platen.
