Abstract

A gas in liq. emulsion is formed by passing the gas into the area where a liq. jet is broken up by impingement on a solid surface or against another liq. jet, then the mixture is passed up a converging tube. The nozzle in which the emulsion is formed comprises a gas inlet, the extension of which is converging tube and a liq. inlet which is at an angle to the gas inlet or parallel to it. Liq. entering via the inlet impinges on a solid surface which is part of the wall of the nozzle, in the form where the inlet is at an angle to the gas inlet, this happens after the liq. has crossed the gas stream. An alternative form of nozzle is to have 2 angles liq. inlets positioned so that the liq. jets collide in the middle of the gas stream. Used for forming gas in liq. emulsions esp. where the proportion of liq. face is small in volume, to be used as work fluid in machines or in physico-chemical reactions. Allows one to obtain large quantities of very fine emulsions.
