Abstract

The unit has depending legs (1) which rest on a vehicle seat on either side of the child, and has recesses (3) for the child's legs. A curved rear wall of the unit fits around the abdomen, and a flat table-like surface (4) is provided on its upper face. A conventional adult's safety belt can be fitted within a channel in the unit to hold it against the child. Recesses (8), separated by bridges (9), form locally weakened portions in the unit to promote its collapse under a predetermined leading in the zone where the belt is entrained.
