Abstract

Joining, in very deep water, of a down pipe to the closure block of a well head, the pipe and block each carrying corresponding eccentric outlet connexions by (a) centring the down pipe on the closure block by resting only one bearing surface fixed to the external control of the down pipe and facing downwards on a bearing surface fixed with external contour of the closure block and fixing upwards. (b) bringing the eccentric outlet connexious into the joining position by rotation of the down pipe relatively to the closure block. (c) mechanically joining in sealed manner and locking the down pipe with closure block, while sept. the downwardly facing bearing surface on the down pipe from the upwardly facing bearing surface of the closure block and (d) joining together the eccentric outlet connexions. Prevents the bearing surfaces having to accept the stress due to the full wt. of the downpipe (drilling pipe string), the centring and orienting by rotation being carried out before connecting the down pipe to the closure block.
